Discover places off the beaten path on this tour, and start with hotel pickup in Puerto Plata. Travel through the interior toward cocoa plantations, and visit a local manufacturer where chocolate is produced, a government project to support rural women.

Stop for a Dominican-style coffee at a friendly local host’s typical country house, before moving on to a fruit and vegetable market. Visit the market, the largest in the region, and discover the stalls of traditional healers and shamans selling herbs, potions, devotionals, and some voodoo artifacts.

Attend a presentation of the finest Dominican cigars at an iconic factory, over 100 years old, learn about the cigar production process, and smoke a real handmade cigar while at the factory.
