After pickup from your hotel in the Barahona area, drive along the spectacular coastal road to Bahoruco. Well hidden in the mountains, you will visit the only existing Larimar Mine in the world, the blue stone exclusive to the Dominican Republic. Discovered in 1974, this stone is scratch resistant and very easy to polish, and is used to make uniquely beautiful jewelry. Arriving at the mine, you’ll have a tour around the area with the opportunity to talk to the miners before taking a refreshing dip into the waters of a natural pool before heading back to your accommodation in Barahona.

The tour was excellent and I enjoyed it a lot. I liked especially the service of Ecotour. I received a confirmation of my booking via WhatsApp and I was picked up on time at my hotel. The guide was very friendly and his english was perfect. The vehicle looked to be in a good shape as well. The only thing which was incorrect in the description of the tour is that there was a picnic lunch included in the price. It is not. Despite of that it was possible to order a lunch at one stop, but I didn’t take advantage of it as I was not very hungry. I can definitely recommend this tour to anyone who is interested to see something else than just beaches of Dominican republic.
